Carbon Products

Here at Carbon Partners, we specialize in developing and working five products: raw materials for the electrometallurgical smelting process, metallurgical and PCI coals, thermal coals and petcoke, and bio products. Each product has a distinct function in the global industry and is essential for generating heat, reductants, modern infrastructure, and manufacturing.

Raw Materials for Electrometallurgical Smelting Process (Production of Silicon, Ferrosilicon, and Manganese Alloys):
The electrometallurgical smelting process to produce silicon, ferrosilicon and manganese alloys requires various raw materials and carbon reductants. These carbon reductants can be a combination of raw materials which include:

  • Coal (bituminous or anthracite)
  • Coke or semi-coke
  • Petcoke
  • Wood chips
  • Quartz

Silicon is one of the most useful elements to mankind. The silicon products made from the electrometallurgical smelting process can be used for metals, made into silicones, or further refined into polysilicon. All of these are used in our daily lives around the globe in products such as:

  • Alloy based metals
  • Automotive parts
  • Sealants
  • Lubricants
  • Coatings
  • Solar Cells
  • Microprocessor Chips
  • Batteries
  • Cosmetics

Ferroalloys are made in a very similar process to Silicon metal. These products can be used to strengthen and improve the quality of steel products and are the keys to making stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel.
Manganese alloys are typically used as a deoxidizer to change and improve the properties of steel.
Carbon Partners has been a full-service provider to the silicon, ferroalloys, and manganese alloys industries for over 40 years.

Metallurgical Coal / PCI:
Metallurgical coal or coking coal is a crucial component in making steel, which is among the most utilized construction materials worldwide. Steel is used heavily in:

  • Construction - buildings, bridges, heavy machinery and infrastructure
  • Transportation - planes, trains, ships, trucks and cars
  • Household appliances - ovens, refrigerators and microwaves

Producing one ton of steel requires 770 kilograms of coal, and most of the world's steel is made in basic oxygen blast furnaces.

Thermal Coal & Petcoke:
Also referred to as steam coal, thermal coal is burned to generate electricity for public grids or for industries that require electrical power such as chemical, paper, cement, and brick manufacturing. Carbon Partners supplies thermal coal from all US coal basins to customers in the US and abroad. In addition, our company sources thermal coal from Colombia, Europe, and Australia for distribution around the globe.

Pet coke, or petroleum coke, is a byproduct of the oil refining process. It is a carbon-rich solid material that is commonly used as a fuel source in industries such as cement and power generation. It can also be used as a raw material in the production of electrodes and other products.

Bio Products:
Carbon Partners strives to be the industry leader in providing bio products, which is why we have partnered with Verdo to produce and distribute wood pellets. These wood pellets are produced from 100% sustainable residual biomass from sawmilling operations and low-value trees to provide an alternative, sustainable choice. Verdo’s wood pellets come in bagged and branded products, bulk goods and private label wood pallets - both 6mm and 8mm - and are offered in premium, standard, and industrial quality.

  • Premium

Our premium wood pellets surpass the highest market standards. They are made by select manufacturers to ensure exceptional quality and uniformity. These white pellets have a high heating value and low ash content (less than 0.4%), making them perfect for residential heating.

  • Standard

Verdo's standard wood pellets meet high quality standards and have a great price-to-quality ratio. While the color may vary slightly due to different manufacturers, all pellets have a high calorific value and low ash content of about 0.5%.

  • Industrial

Industrial wood pellets are appropriate for combined heating and power plants, as well as for industrial facilities that can utilize wood pellets of different qualities with slightly higher ash content. These pellets come in different grades, containing around 1-3% ash, meeting I2 specifications.
